Total Combat 25 Report and Results Card
Another exciting night of MMA 'Cage Fighting' organised by Peter McQueen at the Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton Le Spring, Tyne & Wear. A change in the card followed the announcement of Robert Buzz Berry's retirement following his injuries at 'Cage Rage'. A statement on the Total Combat website reads "We would all like to wish Buzz after a fantastic fighting career all the very best for the future."
Buzz turned out as special guest of the evening, presenting fighters with their awards. The packed crowd were not to be disappointed though with a real exiting mix of MMA amateurs, Semi Pro and Professional fights. It's a simple fact that Peter McQueen does know how to put on a genuinely good value for money package. With lightweight Liam Patterson taking out Curry Heaviside with a Triangle Choke in the first. Middleweight Jonny Bilton winning against Matty Wall. Featherweight Carl Fawcett with a win against Kevin Coop. Sunderland's welterweight Ryan Scope beating Dale Russell from Cumbria. (LW) Wes Kaine beat Daggon Hewitt by an armbar. (MW) Darren Wardle beat Graham Foley.
Knock out fans would have been delighted with the bout between Anth Grecian vs Shadu Ali when 58 seconds into round 2, during a rapid exchange of punches, Anth landed a blinding right punch to the jaw of Ali - knocking him clean out on his feet to win the British title. Both fighters received a standing applause from the packed house.
Andy McQueen of Sunderland Ju-Jitsu & MMA Club successfully defended his Welterweight title by beating challenger Karl Merry and also took fighter of the night award.
Other outstanding performances included those by the likes of young James 'Scraps' Saville, who beat David Grant in round one by a triangle choke.
James returned to West Yorkshire's Caged Steel with the British Featherweight Title. I caught up with 'Scraps' on Sunday afternoon (yesterday). Scraps comes across as a humble lad, he told me he had been very nervous about the size of the crowd on Saturday night. Scraps along with hundreds of other MMA fight fans were attending an afternoon of amateur cage fighting hosted by Caged Steel.
The ultimate fight of the night saw Tomasz 'The Bully' Wisniewski beat Colin Sexton following a barrage of punches dished out by Sexton, until Wisniewski took Sexton to the ground, trapped his leg then tapped out Sexton by Ankle Lock.
All in all a fantastic night of MMA Cage Fighting. I'm certainly looking forward to Total Combat 26 - coming up on Saturday 20th September 2008.
